Gnome Swap & Freecycling my Christmas

I’m getting ready to send off this gnome swap. Before I left home, I took some close-up clues of the little gnome my swap partner is getting.

The Gnome Swap is organised on the Raverly Group, Gnomemakers:

Gnome Swap

I like these kinds of swaps, because it’s got a specific task: make a gnome! I’ll be looking out for others like this. Thing is, I went overboard on a swap once and it was way too much. I warned my Gnome-swap partner that I was *just* sticking to the ‘gnome’ and avoiding the extras because I’m trying to save money, and don’t want to go mad spending. She totally understood, and said that was OK… but SHE was still going to include a few extras for me! And that was OK too. We got off on a good foot, and found what we had in common and had some nice messages back and forth.

I found out, my swap partner has had a rough couple of months. After getting married in September, she and her brand new hubby moved and she has had trouble getting a job. I know that that is like! It’s demoralising and sucks all your creative energy out of you.

So to cheer her up I’m including my “previously-owned” camera – which I think takes great photos! I think I was inspired by Freecycle: http://www.freecycle.org/ Luckily, I still have the original box, cables, disks, etc. She is very pleased! And at least now she can take nice close-up macro pictures of her miniatures. Maybe it will inspire her a bit.

I encourage anyone reading this to find out if there is a local Freecycle group in their area. I think more and more, people will be using services like this to exchange, as cash stops flowing. Remember the LETS system, anyone?
