I was going for a vintage look on the cats’ faces. I crocheted them, then covered them with a light glaze of wool. I needle felted the arms and legs of the small one; and the ears and tails of course.
I made these cats out of wool, and then needle felted wool on top. Needle felted the ears and other bits too.
I just saw this on Nationwide tonight on RTÉ, an artist who makes furniture and clothing for faeries.
So sweet. Emily Bazeley and other artists in her collective in Donegal pool their resources and show their work together around Ireland.
She makes the dresses out of pressed flowers and leaves, some of the materials she has been collecting her whole life, and materials from her grandmother. What a legacy
Someone wrote to ask if I sold the round tuits I made.
Sadly no. Not unless I could take that ceramics class again at Benbulben Pottery. That was so much fun.
I recommend these lovely elegant Round Tuits from Aoife Fey on Etsy. The theme for this weekend is “Getting around to it!” and a number of those things involve my new scanner, so exciting
And I started seeing photos of collections on Etsy… but I have no idea where they are now. Wish I could tag things there. It’s so hard to find things.. when not everything is “favorite”. Hmpf.

I love diamond shapes… So nice. This is a diamond mural over our mantle.
I put up a how-to on Cut Out + Keep. I’ve been meaning to add some how-tos. OK, so this first one is pretty simple. Diamond Mural how-to on Cut Out + Keep.
This wreath follows some ideas I discovered doing my Style file: light colours, and punches of red.
I made a few alterations because I’m awful for following craft directions.
Cheeky, I combined the fabric pompoms with the wreath project. Truth is, I would not likely wear the fabric pompoms.
Also, foam circles were too dear… ($10 USD each). So I used an old shirt and parted with some of my vintage buttons. Then stuffed it.
I made one ‘mistake pancake’ before this… trying to get the seams on the inside on my first try… Turning it inside out looked wonky. Better to let the seams out and use pinking shears!
I cut 2 out of a knit tee, and 1 out of cotton batting. I machine quilted the batting to the top layer. Then sewed all 3 together, leaving a stuffing-hole. Reason for batting? To reduce lumpyness when stuffing.
Hmm.. one problem with wreaths… no one hangs wreaths on their doors in Ireland (a very few people do at Christmas). Wreaths really are for people’s graves. So in Ireland this doesn’t say: “welcome”. I think it’ll be coming down for St Brigid’s day when I can get a cross for spring.
Maybe I can find someone to swap with me… Or I might harvest the buttons off it later, not sure!
Katie Sokoler AKA Color Me Katie is a photographer and street artist.
Here’s a mini documentary about her at Babelgum…
I like this populist kind of art… which I couldn’t seem to imagine when I was in art school. I felt everything was in little boxes at the time. Especially my work which also was in little boxes.
Katie has a similar flavour as Miranda July who’s work I love too.
She is colouring the world around her. For example, spraying snow with crayon colours. I love the mural she did on her wall with clouds and raindrops.
Living in Sligo, Ireland since 2000… I dabble in what ever I can get my hands on. When I get the urge. I like to promote crafting as well. When you’re making something, people always want to get their hands on it. Children are more obvious about it- they literally want to grab it out [...]more →
